What are BBC iPlayer Desktop and Sky Player Desktop?

BBC iPlayer Desktop and Sky Player Desktop are programs that you install on your computer that allow you to download, manage and control the TV programs you want to watch. This is of particular benefit if you have a slow or unreliable Internet connection: they download the programs in the background. When they are ready you can watch, pause and rewind with no delay or skipping! You don't even need to be connected to the Internet to watch them after they’ve downloaded!

I've come to rely on the availability of TV programmes online (a great way to catch up on missed programmes and to watch the channels that my Sky dish can't pick up!). This works very well directly from the websites of BBC, ITV, Sky etc. but these two Desktop Programs add great features (series linking for instance!) as well as working ‘off-line’.

It's just a shame the other channels don't have such a great service!
