New tools make it easier to find the latest news about a topic, search forums, find reviews or even browse results in new ways.
You will wonder how you ever coped without them!!
You can refine your search by dates, forums, reviews, images and present them in new ways. The following image shows what you will see when you click "Show Options" in the new Google Search page that was released today (13th May 2009).
You can combine your filters. For example, if you want to see photos about the recent upgrade to the Hubble Telescope then:
- Search for "Hubble Telescope" as normal.
- Click "Show options" if you haven't done so already.
- Click "Past Week". You can see that you are restricted to the Past Week in the "breadcrumbs" at the top of the results page.
- Click "Images from the page". Now you can see the images that are on the relevant pages as well!
- While you're there click on "Wonder Wheel". Now click on some of the links and see what happens. Note that your results are now on the right and still restricted to Last Week and include pictures.
To see the full results (without your restrictions) simply click "Web" at the top of the results page.
That should give you a feel for the new features but there is so much more to it and much more to come.
One subtle change is in the way they present the results with additional links added where possible. If you search for "Leeds United", for instance, the second result gives links to Fixtures, Tables etc.... Further down you will see video results are grouped together.
You will be aware that if you mis-type a search then Google used to suggest a correction for you. Well now they've improved this by correcting it for you and immediately presenting you with the results. Don't worry if you really meant to type what you did because your results appear after the corrected ones. Try "Obahma" instead of "Obama" to see what I mean.
I think you'll agree that your surfing will never be the same again!!
