Welcome to the latest Newsletter from PC Resolver. This month I'd like to let you know of further improvements to the PC Resolver website: A "Downloads" section and "Website Steve's Q&A". These sections should help you improve your overall computing experience and to find solutions to your problems.

  1. New "Downloads" Section On PC Resolver Website

  2. Website Steve's Q&A

  3. Slow Computer

  4. Website To Sell My Property

  5. FREE Stuff

In a previous newsletter some clients had difficulty with the links. I believe I've got to the bottom of this problem and they should now be working. Here is a link to the popular article about setting up your audio to work with Skype® for those that missed it last time.

New "Downloads" Section On PC Resolver Website

Regular readers of my newsletter will know that I frequently recommend (mostly FREE) software that can be downloaded from the Internet. I have now added a download section to my website where new recommendations will be added. I have included some older recommendations and will add more as time allows. The downloads are categorised according to what they are used for and clicking the links takes you to the site from which you can download the software as well as read more about it. I am considering providing a postal service where you select the software you want and I burn a CD/DVD and post it to you. There will, of course, be a fee for this to cover admin and p&p and is aimed at those with slow Internet connections. Watch this space.

When you visit the download section you will see a category "Website Steve's Q&A Free Stuff". See the next section for more info about Website Steve!

Website Steve's Q&A

Introduction

PC Resolver, in partnership with The Inland Magazine, is publishing a Questions and Answers section in the published magazine. The purpose of this is answer the most common questions that are currently affecting my clients and readers of the magazine. You are encouraged to contact me with any questions you may have.

I include a section on "Free Stuff". This will be software downloads, website links and other items that will be of interest to most readers and are FREE. The links will be found in the downloads section of my website under category: Website Steve's Q&A Free Stuff. The link to Sporcle (the quiz site) is also included.

The content of the published Q&A will be included in these newsletters for my overseas readers (outsiide of Spain) who don't have access to the magazine. If you have any questions that you would like to be included then please contact me.

The questions and answers themselves are in the Website Steve's Q&A section of Support. This section will grow and will include non-published questions.

A key part of Website Steve's Q&A is questions about websites. This is in response to a growing number of enquiries from clients and potential clients that indicate a rising interest in having personal websites but, at the same time, a lack of knowledge and/or understanding. Having your own website has never been easier, cheaper or more necessary than it is today. A fully functioning professionally designed and built website costs 300 Euros to build to your requirements and less than 10 Euros a month to host (including your domain name).

Please contact me for an informal / no obligation discussion.

Why has my computer started to run so slowly? Ian, Sax.

Ian was running Windows XP and his problem is very common for any of us using XP.  There are many reasons why a computer should start running slower than normal. Here are the most usual with possible cures in brackets. Please do not attempt anything that you are not comfortable with (particularly those in italics) and create a System Restore Point before you start:

  • Virus or Spyware (Install and Run Anti-Virus Software)
  • Fragmented Disk (Run the Windows defragment tool)
  • Full Disk (Delete unneeded files - backup if necessary)
  • Too Many Processes (Disable any programs that automatically start when the computer starts).
  • Hard Disk Faults (run chkdsk / scandisk)
  • Overheating Processor (Advanced: Open the case and examine the processor: the fan might just need a clean)
  • Bad RAM Memory (Advanced: Run a diagnostic program)
  • BIOS Settings (Advanced: Check and update if necessary)
  • Programs ‘Hogging” the Processor (Advanced: Identify in Task Manager and stop using to see if it improves performance).

You can also run a system optimization tool. I use “Advanced System Care”.

If none of the above solves the problem then XP will need to be reinstalled.

If you have tried what you can and you still have problems then call me!

My house isn’t selling; do I need a website to sell it?

Bob, Ontinyent.

Yes!! In a Buyers’ Market you have to do what you can and particularly during this crisis.  The ideal property website will cost less than 300 € and hosting is 10 € per month including IVA and can save you thousands of Euros in fees and will help your property sell quicker. Just look at the advantages:

•     Your own superb photographs taken on a sunny day
•     Your own description highlighting your property’s finest features
•     Unlimited photographs and text
•     Advertise where and how often you want
•     Arrange your own viewings to suit you and your buyer
•     Websites work. Can you think of any serious sales business that doesn’t have one?

Anyone with anything to sell (goods or services) should have a website.
