Windows 7 is, by far, the best of the Windows operating system with great improvements in security, looks, features and usability. However, the really useful 'Quick Launch' toolbar is missing.
In XP the Quick Launch is normally next to the 'Start' button on the bottom left of the screen (it has to be set up on a new XP but it is simply a case of right-clicking the task bar and choosing properties).
In Windows 7 things are a little more complex:
- Right-click the taskbar and select "New Toolbar" from the Toolbars option.
- Copy the following text: "%appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch" in to the address bar at the top of the resulting window.
- Choose "Select Folder" and the Quick Launch toolbar now appears on the right side of the taskbar.
- To configure the Toolbar unlock the taskbar: right-click then un-check the "lock the taskbar" option.
- Right-click on the dotted lines next to the Quick Launch toolbar and un-check "Show Title" and "Show Text".
- While you're there, move the toolbar to where you want it.
- Finally, lock the taskbar: then check 'lock the taskbar".
There you have it!
