How and When Do You Pay for Your Web Site?

Because websites vary in size and complexity there are a number of methods and schedules available.

The schedule of payments will be agreed before work commences and normally involves a deposit and then a final payment on completion.

The client will see the site during development and when happy to 'go live' the final payment will be made and the site will be made available. Sometimes a small payment can be held back to allow for small changes to the site during the first few weeks. 

Payment by installments is available as required. For this, it is usual to setup a standing order at a bank or using PayPal. Again, the terms will be agreed before work commences but would normally include a deposit (25-30%) with the remainder being paid monthly.

Per-hour payments

For work carried out on an existing site then a fixed fee is agreed based on the amount of time required.

Payment Methods

Payment can be made by bank transfer (including standing order), PayPal (including credit card payments) or cash.

Example

In this case, the initial deposit is around 50% of the total. This is because of the costs of the Domain Name and Hosting that has to be paid by me up front. If hosting is already in place, then it is usual for the initial deposit to be around 30%.
